Advocacy at Work began with a belief that has guided every conversation here: the wound becomes the wisdom, and the wisdom becomes the work.
A diagnosis, a loss, a caregiving journey, or an experience of being overlooked by the healthcare system can change a person’s life. It can also become the beginning of advocacy—work that supports others, changes policy, improves access, builds community, or helps make healthcare more human.
That commitment remains at the center of this publication. You will continue to hear from patients, survivors, caregivers, and advocates whose lived experience has become meaningful action.
You will also hear more from the people and organizations shaping the systems around us: advocacy leaders, professional organizations, healthcare teams, researchers, care navigators, and mission-aligned partners working to build better relationships with the communities they serve.
The purpose is not simply to tell patient stories. It is to learn from them, and to ask what changes when lived experience is treated as expertise.
Advocacy at Work is for patients, survivors, caregivers, advocates, healthcare professionals, nonprofit and professional leaders, and organizations committed to making healthcare more equitable, responsive, and human.
If you are here because of an experience that changed your life, you belong here. If you are here because your work affects patients and communities, you belong here too, provided you are ready to listen, learn, and help move the work forward.
